Microplastics Free Products

Microplastics Free Products

Did you know nearly 9 out of 10 cosmetic products contain microplastics? And we’re not talking about the packaging, either. The formulas you put on your body, face, or hair are packed with tiny pieces of plastic that get absorbed into your skin or washed into the rivers & oceans.

It’s terrifying, but it’s fixable. Plastic doesn’t need to be in your beauty routine, and there are many brands like us PureWins formulating completely plastic-free beauty products. If we all work together to educate, identify, and say completely no to microplastics, there’s hope for plastic-free skin care

“At a time whilst almost the entire world is fixated on sulphate and paraben-free products, microplastics have sort of slipped thru the gaps,” “While it’s incredible that consumers are more aware and educated about brands, the ingredients they use, and brands’ policies, we need to shed light on the presence of microplastics in skincare products whether they are natural, vegan or organic. At PureWins, we are on a quest to ensure that every product of ours is 100% free of microplastics while being Paraben/Sulphate/SLS free, Vegan, dermatologically tested, Cruelty-free, and Organic Certified”.

What does microplastics mean?

You might assume microplastics are simply small pieces of plastic, however, the definition isn’t that simple. In recent years it’s even been a source of controversy.

Originally, microplastics referred to larger pieces of plastic washed up onto seashores and into the sea which have broken down into tiny particles.

The source of microplastics comes mostly through textiles, and the dust of tires that get blown away from roads, and both of them end up in the oceans.

What is Microplastics in Skincare?

Microplastics are small pieces of plastic with huge consequences. Cosmetic microplastics have been knowingly added to skincare products such as exfoliants, peelers, and body washes. They may also be found in most beauty care products including your foundation, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, lipstick, and so on. These are known as Primary Microplastics.

Microplastics from cosmetics are estimated to only contribute 2% to the global release of microplastics. The rest are from textiles, tyres, and city dust. This percentage could be brought down to zero if the skincare industry switched to natural alternatives such as herb powders, clay, wax, and starch since microplastics are added exclusively, which is not only harmful to your skin in the long term but also to the environment.

How does microplastic affect your skin?

Plastic in any form, is dangerous to your skin’s health. They will have an abrasive impact on your skin in the short and long term. Microbeads in your face scrubs, makeup remover, and body washes can cause skin abrasive, which not only irritate but also dry out the skin.

How to know there are microplastics in your skincare products?

  1. Polyethylene

Unfortunately, not all brands explicitly report the presence of microplastics in their products. So, while choosing any exfoliation or scrub, choose brands that aggressively emphasize their dedication to being microplastic-free.

Q. Can microplastics in skincare products cause skin irritation?

Although the immediate impact of microplastics on skin health is unknown, the fact that they have the potential to harm the ecosystem should be enough to avoid them. It is critical for our overall well-being that we reduce our contribution to pollution.
